Writing about the artwork is one of the ways to equitably relate the art with other things that are closer to our life.
“KELAS BELAJAR - Writing about artwork” is a writing workshop which invites everyone to come together to learn, identify, record, and describe the basic forms of artworks as well as analyzing and interpreting it into well-elaborated sequences which led to more appropriate perspective.
This time, Cata Odata focusing KELAS BELAJAR writing practice based on Imam Sucahyo’s artworks, a self-taught artist from Tuban (East Java). His works are displayed at our gallery rooms for our monthly programme; Current Display. In this KELAS BELAJAR, Imam Sucahyo attends and give a personal opinion as an artist. This to complete the writing process to be complete and thorough.
Dwi S. Wibowo was the speaker. He studied Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Language and Arts of the Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. He was active in literary communities and worked as an editor at the arts section at Jogja Review, also a freelance writer at Bali Post Sunday. Now, he is a contributor at Sarasvati (Indonesia art magazine)
We had 5 participants from different background such as Architect, Hotelier, Community Activist, English Teacher, and an Art Gallery Officer. Dwi started the session by the basic and brief art history. They observed the paintings and drawings also did some informal interview to Imam Sucahyo. At the end of the class, everybody read the writing to be responded by Dwi and the other participants. Three of them continued to write at home after the workshop and send their writing to us.
